The chamber choir hamburgVOKAL was founded in 2010 by Matthias Mensching. Young singers, a sophisticated repertoire, high sound quality and great artistic ambition is what defines hamburgVOKAL. Its repertoire reaches from early music to contemporary works.
In 2013 hamburgVOKAL won Hamburgs State Choir Competition within the category A.1 (mixed chamber choirs). A great success was the choir’s following participation in the 9th German Choir Competition in Weimar. Being the most important contest in Germany’s choir scene, hamburgVOKAL was awarded a third price in the overall rankings. Furthermore, the choir’s performance of Ralph Hoffmann’s arrangement of „Wach auf, meins Herzens Schöne“ was singled out by the jury as an „outstanding interpretation of a German folksong“ winning a special award.
2015 the choir was invited by the NDR for a radio production.
